Mysterious, twisted and lush, Michelle Gurevich returns to Bucharest for a grand experience.
The daughter of a Kirov ballerina and an engineer from Leningrad, Michelle grew up listening to her parents’ collection of Soviet and 70’s European records. Later on, her music would draw comparisons to Velvet Underground’s Nico, Alla Pugacheva or Tanita Tikaram.
Michelle’s songs are tragicomic, sentimental and suspended in shadowy glamour, combining her tradition of dark realism with great sense of humour delivered with fatalistic lyrics. Michelle has established her own niche that includes the East European diaspora and the Berlin queer scene. During live shows she creates an unmistakable experimental Art Pop centered around grandiose retro motifs. Critics appraise her melodramatic, low voice that could easily turn into the soundtrack for a noir cabaret with waltzy eastern European influences, accompanied by precise theatricality and great affection for melody.
